- History:
Once upon a time, there lived a white man, in the desert, and his name was Joe. He doctored cows, for a living, which was the kind of thing one did, in the middle of the desert, in the mid-1930s. His best friend was a wise-ass Navajo blacksmith, and he took, for his wife, the witch from the bar they both drank at. In time, a son was born to him, and he named that son Jesse. In more time, another son was born to him -- this one slightly less expected, and showing all the signs of two parents living on the Elders' lands. That son was named Frank.
Growing up, Frank Mills was a fairly normal boy, for the time and place. He went to school with his father's people and played games with his uncle Atsidi's nephews and nieces. From time to time, movie crews would come to town to film, and Joe would take his sons out to watch. On rarer occasions, Frank would do things that made his Navajo friends laugh and his white friends afraid -- like the time he fell off the cliff and bounced, walked away without a scratch. Slowly, the parents of his white friends started to suggest they not hang around the Mills boys, any more, but Joe and Mariana remained unshaken. Their boy just had a talent for weird things, and in a weird town like Gallup, how could anyone expect things to remain normal? It wasn't as though Mariana's brothers hadn't been much the same, although being a girl, her own introduction to magic had been much more restrained and appropriate to indoor activities.
Sure enough, in time, both sons were called upon by the Elders' children, and invited to study at the Acoma Academy -- Jesse first, and then Frank. Jesse chose to study as a Naturalist -- learning to get the most from the land, but Frank was a wild child, choosing to study in the emerging discipline of Technoshamanism.
After he graduated, Frank set up shop, in Gallup, as an electrician. There was no man in town who could get your television working faster than old Frank, and his former detractors came back around, saying that boarding school his parents sent him to must've straightened him out... Except it really hadn't. They just didn't have to know he was enchanting their electronics, to keep them working. Sometimes it really was just a matter of making sure that one piece stayed where it should, in a house full of screaming lunatic children, who shook the walls, running up and down the stairs. It was easier and cheaper to just put a spell on it that fed off the house electricity, than it was to try to fix some things, the traditional way.
In time, he learned that other Wizarding communities had restrictions on the kinds of work that he did, so he set about smuggling harmless, but useful, tools into those places. This year, the work has brought him to London.
- Are you playing any other characters here? Yes.
- Two types of 'elders' are referenced, here. With a lowercase 'e', it means the folks in charge on the reservation. With a capital 'E', it means the gods of the region.
